Moon Mage's Guild News

[5/29/2001] Update: Sigil Scrolls

As of today, the ability to make sigil scrolls from tanned hides, skins, and other materials is now available to all members of the Moon Mage guild who have completed the Enchantment quest.

Exact details on the process of creating these scrolls can be found on the message boards in the Moon Mage Guild folder, or by consulting with the other members of the guild.

[5/27/2001] Changes to Prediction and Observation: Astrology Skill

As of today, both Predictions and Observations will teach Astrology, giving Moon Mages another means to learn the skill besides Enchanting and Teaching. Any problems noticed in learning the Astrology skill via these methods should be posted on the message boards.

[5/15/2001]
New Spell release: Imbue

The Imbue spell is now released and on Premium preview for the next week. Following the preview, the spell can be learned from any of the Moon Mage guild leaders by those who have an empty spell slot, a minimum of 20 circles, and the Focus Moonbeam spell.

[5/11/2001] Astrology Grandfathering

The ability to gain the grandfathered ranks for Astrology is now available! The ranks are given based on current circle, and can be gained by following the instructions under PREDICT USAGE. The exact details on the inner workings can be found on the Message boards within the Moon Mage guild folder.

Past News

1/26/00 Clarify Gem. Previously, if you appraised a gem at a gembuyer's, then cast Clarify Gem to increase its value and took it back to the gemshop, you would get the old, quoted (lower) appraised value. This has been fixed, and you should now be able to sell your gems for their real (higher) value after Clarifying them without worry about what the appraiser previously told you.

1/27/00 Darkness. A bug was fixed today that was causing this spell to put both Paladins and deaders into hiding. Paladins should never have been forced into hiding because of the soul hit associated with hiding for that profession, and deaders should never have been put into hiding for obvious reasons.

2/12/00 Scry and Locate have changed. Because of the extreme similarities between these two spells, they have been combined into Locate. Scry will no longer be castable. Those with both Scry and Locate will lose Scry and gain a spell slot. Those with Locate will gain the functions of Scry depending on skill and mana. Please note that this combination is a rare exception -- there are NO plans to do this with ANY other live spells. For those of you who gain a spell slot from this change, be sure to USE IT WISELY.

3/18/00 On Mirror Wraiths and Prophecy...

Were you around when the Mirror Wraith first came to Tamsine's Shrine and shared its prophecy with everyone? Do you remember Demosel, Andraethu, Penelope? Or the objects these individuals held? If you do, you're one of the lucky few. Well, guild of scholars, why not enlighten your brethren?

Here's the deal: Write a book about the Mirror Wraith Prophecy events (make sure you stick to the stuff that actually occurred -- don't make things up). The writer(s) of the best book(s) will receive a reward. If you'd like to participate, send your works to DR-Cadaya@play.net. Be creative. The contest is open only to players of active Moon Mage characters (and yes, we'll check). Players of non-Moon Mages are welcome to submit books about the subject, but they'll not be entered in the contest.

4/03/00 Locate and Seer's Sense changes. The "I could not find what you were referring to" bug in Locate has been fixed. Additionally, if you have enough skill and a Seer's Sense link to your target, you'll be able to locate them even if they're hidden or invisible. Seer's Sense has had some additional information added on the link version of the spell. Also, a bug with the way Seer's Sense figured difficulty has been fixed -- You should now see a bit more experience from casting this spell, but by the same token, younger mages won't be able to achieve the same bonus as older mages until they gain more skill. Enjoy.

4/04/00 Seer's Sense: Unfortunately, the experience change we anticipated for casting seer's sense has been found to be buggy. We are aware of this problem and are working hard to correct this situation. This does not impact the functionality of the spell.

4/09/00 The Moon Mage meeting that was going to occur tonight has been postponed due to some unforeseen conflicts! Our apologies. A new time will be scheduled, and both NEWS and the message boards will be updated to reflect that! Watch here for further MM news.

4/14/00 Shadow Scribe changes. The Shadow Scribe spell has had some features added: With more skill, you can now get more words. The words will also form from left to right rather than top to bottom to reduce scroll. You will no longer be able to use unusual characters when casting this spell, but you will be able to use the syntax CAST (with no message) and it will rebuild your moonbeam, as per the previously planned Sharpen Moonbeam spell. Enjoy.

4/24/00 Bones have been fixed. After many discussions and much testing, bones should now be working as intended. Please test them to your hearts content, and if you spot any further problems, please BUG the problem or post it on the boards so we can check into it. Enjoy.

4/28/00 Time Sense. A rumor has been going around that Kssarh is teaching a new minor skill to Estate Holder Moon Mages: the ability to sense day or night while inside. While this ability is nothing earthshaking by any means, it's usage will be of importance when combined with future abilities and spells. After a short time of training Estate Holder students in the use of this ability, Kssarh will teach any Moon Mages who meet the requirements. In other news, those with the Shadow Servant spell may now find that they can concentrate and tell roughly how far away that pesky servant is! Enjoy.

5/16/00 Argh! My gweth broke, and that's my last one. Oh wait, thats ok, I have THOUGHTCAST! Thats right, for those of you wondering what new things you can do with Seer's sense, you can now talk to your linked companion via esp. No more gwething to that lost loved those fabled words "Help me!" Thoughtcast starts on premium preview today! It will be released to everyone next Tuesday, May 23 2000.

6/9/00 Recent rumors have been flying in the Moon Mage guildhalls regarding a strange prophet wandering the streets of Therengia. What makes this sighting remarkable for the Guild is the prophet's unusual command of never before seen magic. Despite being blind, this enigmatic individual has managed to dodge all attempts at conversation. What can this mean for the Moon Mage Guild?

7/15/00 The Shadows spell. Two bugs were fixed with this spell: 1) Casting at a critter now gets a messaging result other than defaulting to a self cast. 2) Item casting was never intended to give experience, and this has been fixed. You can only gain experience now from casting this spell on others or yourself.

7/16/00 For those who are not aware, there is a Moon Mage gathering held every Monday night at 10pm est. in the Crossing amphitheater. It is a chance for all the members of the Moon Mage guild to come together to discuss various topics, including the Mirror Wraith Prophecy, new spell ideas, and generally anything involving the Moon Mage guild. Everyone is welcome, but please remember this is an In Character gathering, and everyone should behave accordingly.

7/28/00 Thanks to the brave and tedious efforts of three intrepid adventurers, we have a new spell to add to our repertoire. The spell Contingency is now live. We feel it's to die for - Enjoy!

8/29/00 Guildhalls... closed!? With the assassination of the Moon Mage Council by the criminals Lechsu and Lasarhhtha, the guild has fallen into a precarious state. Seeing the questionable fate of the Moon Mage guild, the provincial sovereigns have ordered all such guildhalls closed immediately! The surviving members of the Council are working diligently to find a solution to this crisis for the guild. Is the future uncertain? Perhaps not, for the Guildmaster Prime, Taramaine Ennis-Braun, has convinced the Zoluren leaders to allow Guildleader Kssarh back temporarily at his post until a final judgement can be made for the fate of the Moon Mage Guild...

[This is part of a planned event for the Moon Mage guild. As such, only Kssarh is available to accept new students and promote current ones. This is intentional! Please do not REPORT or use BUG to let us know the other guildleaders have vanished.]

8/29/00 Moon Mage Sects. VERY IMPORTANT: The long awaited Sects of the Moon Mage Guild are close to being released (or are some already live...?). We feel strongly that these will provide new and exciting ways to Roleplay your characters. However, there are a couple of key things you should remember about the Sects:

1) Once you join a Sect, you can not switch and join another! Be very sure that the Sect you join is the one you want to be in!

2) Not all the Sects will be released at the same time. See suggestion #1, above: Be very sure that the Sect you join is the one you want to be in, because you can't change!

9/04/00 By decree of both of the Zoluren and Therengian sovereigns, Guildmaster Tiv has been granted ownership of the Citadel Moon Mage guild, which he has reopened for all to come and study and learn. The Monks of the Crystal Hand have taken up residence in the Ith Draknari Halls, open only to those who are members of the Crystal Hand sect.

General cantrips for all members of the Moon Mage guild have been released. Their locations are secret, and therefore need to be discovered. Enjoy!

Please keep in mind that the locations of the sect houses and the locations of the general cantrips are considered game secrets and therefore should not be discussed openly, over the gweth, or posted publicly on the message boards. Doing so may bring repercussions from the various sect and or guild leaders.

9/11/00 As of today, a total of four sects have opened their doors to allow students of the Moon Mage guild to become members under their tutelage. Those currently available are: Progeny of Tezirah, Monks of the Crystal Hand, Nomads of the Arid Steppe, and the Prophets of G'nar Peth. Anyone seeking entrance to these or any other sect will need to find the various locations housing the sect representatives.

9/15/00 There will be a guild meeting Saturday, 9/23/2000 at 3pm Eastern. Invitations will be sent to all Moon Mages when the meeting is about to start, so any interested in attending may do so. Transportation to and from the meeting will be provided. Hope to see you there!

9/20/00 For Moon Mages, both Escaping and Stealing have been removed from the overall average survival requirements. By removing these two skills, that means that most likely your character's overall average survival will go up -- meaning, if you were being asked to learn more survival to circle before this change, you may now very well have enough to meet that requirement.

However, we have attempted to balance the new formula to closely approximate the previous formula. Most should find no noticeable difference, some should find they need fewer ranks of overall survival, while a very few may find they need to make up a small number of ranks. With the potential of some additional requirement change to accompany the new prediction system, we felt that any dramatic change so closely following the last change and so close to a future one would be unfairly stressful to the guild to say the least.

9/25/00 As of today, a total of five sects have opened their doors to allow students of the Moon Mage guild to become members under their tutelage. Those currently available are: Progeny of Tezirah, Monks of the Crystal Hand, Nomads of the Arid Steppe, Prophets of G'nar Peth and the Celestial Compact. Anyone seeking entrance to these or any other sect will need to find the various locations housing the sect representatives.09/25/00 As of today, a total of five sects have opened their doors to allow students of the Moon Mage guild to become members under their tutelage. 10/27/00 A total of six Sects have opened their doors to allow students of the Moon Mage guild to become members. Those currently available are: The Progeny of Tezirah, the Monks of the Crystal Hand, the Nomads of the Arid Steppe, the Prophets of G'nar Peth, the Celestial Compact and the Gypsies of Fortune's Path. Anyone seeking entrance to these or any other Sect will need to find the various locations housing the Sect representatives.

***** Remember some key issues with Sects ******

1) Once you join a Sect, you can not switch and join another! Be very sure that the Sect you join is the one you want to be in! Seek other Moon Mage players and read every book you can beforehand!

2) Please keep in mind that the locations of the sect houses and the locations of the general cantrips are considered game secrets and therefore should not be discussed openly, over the gweth, or posted publicly on the message boards. Doing so may bring repercussions from the various sect and or guild leaders.

Sect Titles! These are now live. Please speak to your Sect representative to see if you qualify for the new titles. You can use the TITLE verb to clear either the PRE or POST Sect titles. The PRE title will not show up as an available title with TITLE PRE LIST, and if you clear your PRE title, you'll have to speak to your Sect representative to regain it. This is intentional and is not a bug! Enjoy.

10/30/00 New Spell Release! Tired of trying to shove your opponent away? Need to gain some distance from an attacking critter? Does someone you know eat lots of garlic? Well then, Whole Displacement is the spell for you. Whole displacement is currently on Premium preview and will be released to the public 11/7/00. Enjoy!
