A cleric's response to thieving.

There has recently been in influx of light-fingered adventurers on Aesry Surlaenis'a. Unfortunately, the bank gate is the major healing place, gathering spot on the island. A crew of pickpockets set up shop there, using extraordinary methods (OOC: script stealing) to glean the coin from all of our hunting spoils from my husband Berrien's pockets.

As a cleric of Hodierna, I deplore anything that might take the light of life from someone, so challenging and killing a thief is not an option for me. And my husband respects my wishes under extreme duress. Which means I practically tie him down and sit on him <grin>.

When they stole from me and took my few coppers I had to buy Lanahh Pao for a holy ritual, I was very upset. I did not see the thief, but my husband did. So I could not accuse the thief. Seeing me visibly upset, my husband took me off to our private spot so I could gather my thoughts.

First thing I did was gweth to warn the others on the island to guard their pockets in front of the bank. Second, I announced that those who saw fit to steal from me or my husband would find that I could not hear (would ignore) their pleas for help should they fall.

Finally, on the suggestion of a friend, I went back to the bank gate and performed Meraud's commune to sanctify the ground and make it safe again for those that wished to gather there. Then I announced cleric dancing in front of the bank. It turned into quite a party, Vivianne brought a picnic and we all had a grand time.

While I was so upset at first, I found this solution a very happy one. No one was killed, a point was made, and friends gathered and enjoyed being with each other.

As a cleric, I hate to spend my time doing something so patently against my nature as stealing. Practicing stealing for the sole purpose of protecting my own pockets is to me a drain on my soul that should reflect in the same way it does for a Paladin. This solution of sanctifying ground brought the joy back to my dancin' feet.
